A spooky interlude

We interrupt this previously scheduled program for breaking news: the kids had a fantastic Halloween. Things got underway the weekend before Halloween when Auntie Melody had all of the little ones over for some spooky games and food. We played hot potatopumpkin and then decorated some pumpkins. The highlight might have been the Halloween-themed spread set before us for lunch: meatball-in-a-blanket mummies, bucket o' bones (ribs), blood sauce, pickle fingers and devilled pumpkin eggs followed by a dessert course of apple/PB/marshmallow mouths, eyeball Oreos and tarantula Timbits. The kids were over the moon with the whole afternoon! Here are some pictures of the festivities and food:
In the week leading up to Halloween, the kids had a few parties to attend. Max and Leo had costume night at Beavers on the Tuesday and Henry had a dress-up day at preschool on the Thursday. For both events, the kids got to uncork their indoor costumes:
And then, the big day. Max and Leo recycled their costumes for the school day (which apparently featured a dance and some movies) before getting geared up for the evening. Nana and Auntie Karen came over to staff the door while we wandered the neighbourhood with Auntie Laramie, Uncle James, West and Reed. The weather was very nice, somewhere in the neighbourhood of 5 degrees, and both Leo and Henry were good to do the T formed by our block and the block at the T-junction at the end of the street. Max, however, had a little more in the tank and proceeded to do another long block with Holly while the rest of us went home. It should be noted that Max thought he had enough energy to tackle more houses…it turns out that twice, he was unable to shout "Trick or Treat" and meekly asked the people at the door for a glass of water. Hilarious. Here are some pictures of the kids, the neighbourhood marauding and the loot.
